Mini Slip Dress with Oversize Floral Kimono

May 17, 2021

If you are into layering like me, you won’t make an exception for summer even if the term ‘summer layering’ itself seems like an oxymoron. Talk about beating the heat but at the same time wrap oneself up with another layer of fabric. The only good thing is if you have love for cotton and linen, you can just go all out in the warmer months and create a variety of looks that involve layering in the summer. Let’s take one of the most basic trends in the summer layering category, the kimono. Mostly a casual and a light dresser, my fondness for kimono has only grown over the years. Afterall, what fits completely with the Mumbai weather can be styled to create multiple casual looks that can totally stand out. Just played around with a plain white mini slip dress and combined it with this floral kimono to go with.

A sucker for kimono, its one of my favourite layering ingredients during the warmer months, actually round the year considering Mumbai. This Billabong kimono is light and breezy which is well demonstrated with its large size that aids in keeping me cool in the heat. An important layering rule that I follow in summer is to use oversize and ultra-light pieces with the result that the layering actually doesn’t really let the heat bother much and you stay comfortably ventilated. The floral print helped me spruce up the plain white mini dress whose only attraction is a lace hemline. There is absolutely nothing more to this dress and hence it almost screams for the right layer. Couldn’t have done it better I guess as I let the boldness of the kimono be highlighted against this minimalistic base. I wanted a casual and a relaxed look perfect for going out during the day while staying super casual and chic. It’s a pretty fabulous piece to make an otherwise drab outfit a lot of fun too.

To complete the look, I am opting for a pair of pink jazzy sneakers and a lightweight bag with long straps keeping it extremely casual. Just a simple long necklace and added some quirky charm to the look with a streak of hair extension in pink. Wasn’t quite sure about feather earrings but thought ill try them anyways. The look in fact exudes major boho vibes, perfect for a music fest or a trip to the flea market. I actually wore this look for the first time to the Reliance Jio Lil Flea!

I am wearing-

Forever 21 dress; Billabong shrug; Aldo sneakers; Vero Moda bag; Accessorize necklace; H&M earrings
